After smacking into my own mortality this year and then hearing the news that I was going to be a grandmother for the first time, I felt as if I needed to put something in writing just in case. We don't know yet if she's having a boy or a girl because, my daughter said, "there just aren't enough happy surprises in life." And this from a child who snooped every Christmas and birthday. She's all grown up now. I think she's ready to be a mom. If any of us are ever really "ready."
